25 Hours of Dungeons & Dragons!
Extra Life Marathon

Every adventuring party needs a quest, and our quest is to help kids.

This year, members of the Dungeons & Dragons team and guests of Wizards of the Coast will participate in a 25-hour live D&D game marathon as part of Extra Life on November 2 – 3. Extra Life is a gaming event that raises funds for Children's Miracle Network hospitals. Thousands of children are treated each year in these hospitals, regardless of their families' abilities to pay. These kids face much scarier threats than dragons and beholders.

Starting at 8 AM on Saturday, November 2nd, the team will livestream its participation on the D&D Twitch TV channel. The Dungeon Master, Greg Bilsland, will run a rotating group of players through Ghosts of Dragonspear Castle for 25 hours using the D&D Next playtest rules set. The game will conclude at 8 AM on Sunday, November 3.

Donors can contribute to different team-members to grant them benefits before and during the game. At the bottom of the page is a play calendar along with full list of participants and links to their Extra Life pages.

Visit the Dungeons & Dragons Extra-Life Page for more information.

Thank you!

The Team

Greg Bilsland (the Dungeon Master) is a producer for Dungeons & Dragons by day and a graduate student by night. He runs two semi-monthly D&D games set in the Dragonlance setting, contents of which can be followed on Twitter. He's pretty sure this 25-hours of DMing is the most awesome or most stupid thing he's ever done.

Ben Petrisor is the youngest designer in the R&D digital team, working with partners on games like Neverwinter. As a night owl, Ben is looking forward to playing D&D into the rising sun.

Chris Dupuis is a designer whose credits include Heroscape, Risk Legacy, & multiple D&D/Kaijudo products for Wizards. Follow him on Twitter

Daniel Helmick , formerly of Wizards of the Coast, is a freelance author from Renton, Washington who enjoys synchronized swimming, point-fighting karate tournaments, and of course, rolling dice. Follow him on Twitter . . . IF YOU DARE.

Derek Guder is an event programming manager at Gen Con and can be found on Twitter.

Erin M. Evans is the author of The God Catcher, Brimstone Angels, and Brimstone Angels: Lesser Evils, and the highly anticipated third book in the Sundering series, The Adversary. She lives in Seattle with her husband and son. Find her on Facebook, Twitter, and at slushlush.com.

James Wyatt has been playing D&D since 1979, professionally designing D&D material since 1997, and working at Wizards of the Coast since 2000. He occasionally appears on Twitter.

Jeremy Petter , longtime member of comedy troupe LoadingReadyRun, is portrayed on-screen as a vindictive and incredulous DM. While no party has ever completed his infamous adventure, _The Temple of the Lava Bears_, this is primarily because he has never finished writing it. He's also on Twitter.

Joe Louie is a lifelong gamer, and spends his days fighting for the users. He's enjoyed a life of serendipity through the love and support of friends and family. He's also on Twitter.

Meris Mullaley is a museum educator at the Museum of History & Industry (MOHAI). With a background in archaeology, she has proven that she can be an irritatingly meticulous D&D player when there is a dungeon to explore. Her sewing adventures are documented at Fabric Alchemist and on Twitter.

Mike Fehlauer began his D&D career in the late 1900's. When he was in the 1st grade his older brother and sister conscripted him into their campaign as a Halfling because "we need someone to taste potions, and Halflings have good saving throws." A recent father, he looks forward to one day introducing his heir to the joys & mysteries of polyhedral dice. When not rolling 20's Mike manages business development at Penny Arcade and exhibitor events at PAX. He's also on Twitter.

Mike Mearls is the senior manager for the D&D research and design team. He has worked on the Castle Ravenloft board game along with a number of supplements for the D&D RPG. He's also on Twitter.

Mike Selinker is the president of Lone Shark Games. He was a creative director on D&D 3rd Edition, and designed and/or developed Axis & Allies Revised, Risk Godstorm, and Betrayal at House on the Hill, among many other games. He's also on Twitter.

Molly Lewis is a musician who plays the ukulele. She's also on Twitter

Rodney Thompson is the co-designer of the Lords of Waterdeep board game, and designer for D&D Next. Originally from Chattanooga, TN, Rodney has been designing games since 2001. He can be found on Twitter.

Stephen Toulouse (aka Stepto) is a writer formerly of Xbox and now working at HBO. He's also on Twitter.

Tally Heilke is an obsessively creative individual best known for her often geeky crafting (Piranha Plant flowers, Cthulhu tentacle pillows, MtG themed plushies and more) and her craft blog, Tally's Treasury. She is also a member of the organizational team of Desert Bus for Hope. She's also on Twitter.

Thomas Ourada grew up in rural Colorado as that kid that who read the entire Paladium Fantasy book (!), but never new anyone to play with. Since moving to Seattle, he's enjoyed getting into all venues of gaming, and making friends that love it as much as he does.

Trevor Kidd is the social media manager for Dungeons & Dragons at Wizards of the Coast. He's also on Twitter

Will the game be posted for us to view? I would like to watch it in its entirety.

For those who missed it, Greg Blisland has announced Ghost of Dragonspear Castle will be available on PDF at dndclassics.com as of December!

And to be clear, we're just talking about the portion with the adventures. The entire book is not being released.

Good luck folks! The maps of Daggerford and Sword Coast region look great! Looks like Mike Schley's work.

Good luck to all those playing in tomorrow's livestream game!!!

I only have one request in all of this. Since my friends and I are also participating in Extra Life this year, will all of this remain on the DnD Twitch TV channel for people to watch at their leisure after the event ends? I especially would like to see it from a Dungeon Master's perspective since I'm about to run the Ghosts of Dragonspear Castle as my group's next campaign.

Fantastic! Inspired me to run a similar event. Extra Life is doing some very good work. Thanks.

Did Chris Dupuis and Trevor Kidd tie the knot now that it's legal in Washington? I noticed he's taken on Trevor's last name as part of his own. Also, it says he's excited to stay up past his bedtime and he's slotted for 12p-4pm. How does he get any design work in when he normally goes to bed so early? ;)

I would be available to game if you are looking for new players.

I had the fortune in playing at a table run by Greg Bilsland at Card Kingdom a while back, was a blast. Will definitely be tuning in for this, as much as I can!

30 player slots and only 4 women?
Posted By: CK1 (10/14/2013 2:05:15 PM)

Well, actually, ten of those thirty slots are taken up by the featured player (Rodney) and the DM (Greg). If you look instead at the total number of non-featured participants, you will see that there are 17 participants, 4 of whom are women.
Posted By: Delain (10/14/2013 2:15:37 PM)

And there were actually several other women who were invited and unable to attend.
Posted By: WotC_GregB (10/14/2013 5:16:24 PM)

If you're looking for women to play in the future, I'd gladly volunteer! I'm the Twitter Administrator for GeekGirlCon and president of their board as well.

Why did they not mention Mike Selinker's most recent jaw-dropping success, the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game? That's how I learned of him and that's who i'll be watching.

What!?!? No Chris Perkins? Has he renegotiated his contract so that he only appears in conjunction with Penny Arcade?
Posted By: WilliamofBaskerville (10/14/2013 11:49:53 AM)

Nope, but he will be at a convention this weekend. We'll be running his adventures, though.
Posted By: WotC_GregB (10/14/2013 11:59:38 AM)

Nice answer to a snarky question. But for real, Chris Perkins is awesome and should be part of everything you guys do, ever.
Posted By: TimmyTooTall (10/28/2013 8:05:37 PM)

We have seen the masterful DMing of Perkins and I can't wait til we see more but what I would like to see is how Perkins plays a PC. :) Some day....some day, maybe.

So does one group get an extra hour because of daylight savings time (making 8AM-8AM a 25 hr period)? If so, are there any magical benefits or other cool stuff going on in that extra hour?
Posted By: JoeyLast (10/14/2013 11:43:33 AM)

The midnight - 4 AM group gets an extra hour. I'll have to give that some thought.
Posted By: WotC_GregB (10/14/2013 11:49:10 AM)

I hope a tarrasque will appear in the adventure! There is fun perks that comes with donation LOL

I will definitly watch some part of it!
