Rule-of-Three: 04/25/2011
R&D Staff

You’ve got questions—we’ve got answers! Here’s how it works—each week, our Community Manager will be scouring all available sources to find whatever questions you’re asking. We’ll pick three of them to answer, whether about the about the making of the game, the technical workings of our DDI studio, or anything else you care to know about… with some caveats.

There are certain business and legal questions we can’t answer (for business and legal reasons). And if you have a specific rules question, we’d rather point you to Customer Service, where representatives are ready and waiting to help guide you through the rules of the game. That said, our goal is provide you with as much information we can—in this and other venues.

1 Are there plans for future support for pre-Essentials classes beyond open paragon paths and indirect power choices?

Yes. We are in the process of finalizing DDI content plans for the coming year. Based on community feedback, we are going to make sure that we roll out support for existing classes and find ways to shore up classes that are seen as under-supported.

2 Does the Dragon/Dungeon staff publish what articles they feel are interesting, or do they have specific mandates such as to cover X number of classes, Y races, and Z pieces of fluff/fiction per month? More specifically, does the editor-in-chief pick from what the writers offer, or dictate which classes get support that month?

The process generally focuses on the former, with writers working on and submitting material they find interesting and the editor-in-chief picking out the best of the lot for publication.

As mentioned in the answer above, we've also been further planning DDI content; as a direct result of this column and community feedback (such as the thread Steve Winter started on the forums soliciting feedback), we're creating lists of the most pressing issues in the community and making plans to address them. Once we have our schedule finalized, we can talk about timelines and specific issues we'll tackle.

3 Will epic tier support actually occur?

Yes. We have plans for an epic tier adventure arc to release later this year. We want to use that arc not only to give you a quality adventure, but also to show how epic adventurers interact with the world and the sort of events they find themselves caught up in.

How can I submit a question to the Rule-of-Three?

Instead of a single venue to submit questions, our Community Manager will be selecting questions from our message boards, Twitter feed, and Facebook account. You can also submit questions directly to dndinsider@wizards.com. So, if you’d like to have your question answered in the Rule-of-Three, just continue to participate in our online community—and we may select yours!
