The Magic: The Gathering Grand Prix tournament series is an international circuit of large-scale Qualifier tournaments featuring cash prizes and multiple invitations to Pro Tour events.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT AND SCHEDULE
The format for Grand Prix–Melbourne is Onslaught block Limited, with Day 2 Rochester Draft. All DCI Limited rules and Magic Floor Rules will be enforced.

Friday, November 22: Registration from 4:00-9:00 P.M.
Saturday, November 23: Late registration from 8:00-9:00 A.M.
Tournament begins at 9:30 A.M. The Top 64 players advance to competition on Sunday
Sunday, November 24: The Top 64 players begin play at 9:00 A.M. Finals will immediately follow.

TOURNAMENT

The main tournament at Grand Prix-Melbourne is open to Magic players of all ages.

If the player who wins an invitation to Pro Tour–Chicago at Grand Prix–Melbourne has already qualified for an invitation, the invitation shall be passed down to the next-best finisher. Previous qualification may occur through a Qualifier tournament, through performance at a professional tournament, or by being an invited DCI™ player (valid on the date of the official rank announcement for the appropriate professional tournament).

Amateur Status
A player is considered to have amateur status if he or she has 0 lifetime pro points. If a player has ever been awarded any points from a Grand Prix, Pro Tour, or World Championship event, that player no longer has amateur status, may not participate in the Amateur Championships or Junior Super Series tournaments, and is not eligible for amateur awards at Grand Prix or other tournaments.

Tournament Format
The format for Grand Prix - Melbourne is Onslaught™ block Limited, with Day 2 Rochester Draft. All DCI™ Limited rules, Magic® Floor Rules announced on September 1, 2002, and all subsequent updates will be enforced.

Tournament Structure
The structure for Grand Prix - Melbourne is modified Swiss (50-minute rounds, with the number of rounds determined by the number of participants), with the Top 64 players advancing to competition on Sunday for prizes and invitations.

Grand Prix Melbourne – Side Event Schedule

Unless explicitly stated, all side events at GP Melbourne have a standard price arrangement.
Prices are:

Draft: $15
Constructed: $10
Sealed: $30

Prize structure for most events depends on the number of players and will be announced at the start of each event.

All events are sanctioned unless an exception is clearly stated.

Friday 22 November

3 PM to 11 PM (Last sealed will start between 7 and 8 PM).

GP Trials. All trials will be Onslaught sealed. All trials will be single elimination with prizes for top 16. Top 4 get a box and top 2 receive a 3rd round bye for GP Melbourne.

Each trial will start as soon as there is 32 players.

2 and 3 Bye Player Practice Events.: These events will be open only to players who have 2 or 3 byes. Each will be Onslaught sealed with a minimum of three rounds. Minimum 8 players, maximum of 32. Prizes determined by numbers.

Drafts on Request.: Anytime there are 8 players ready there will be a draft. Signup sheets will be located at the side event area. 6 boosters for 1st, 3 for 2nd.

Saturday 23 November

10 AM
Metagame Sealed.: This is a limited event where each player receives 2 x 7th Ed boosters, 1 Odyssey booster, 1 Torment booster, 1 Judgment booster and 1 Onslaught booster. 1st place wins a box. Prizes for top half of the field.

12 Noon
Type II.: Onslaught legal. Prizes for all players.

2 PM
Sealed Two Headed Giant. (Not sanctioned): Each team gets 2 Onslaught starters and 1 booster each of Odyssey, Torment, Judgment and 7th Ed. Mix in 40 lifepoints and spells going everywhere and you have the mayhem that is two headed giant. Team cost is $60. Prizes for top half of the field.

4 PM
Masques Block Draft.: Full block draft with one pack each of Mercadian Masques, Nemesis and Prophecy.

20 Minutes after final round
Type 1. Get out all the old cards. 1st will get a box if there is 12 or more players. Prizes for top half of the field.

20 Minutes after final round
Onslaught mini master. (Not sanctioned) Single elimination Booster draft. If you win you get all your opponents cards and then get to remake your deck for the next round. Winner takes all.

Drafts on Request.: Anytime there are 8 players ready there will be a draft. Signup sheets will be located at the side event area. 6 boosters for 1st, 3 for 2nd.

Sunday 24 November

10 AM
Onslaught Backdraft. (Not sanctioned): Draft the worst deck you can, as this is what your opponent will use. At the start of each match you give your opponent the cards you drafted and they make a deck. You make a deck from what they drafted and play with that. Either 8 or 16 players. 1st gets 16 or 32 boosters, depending on numbers.

10AM
Type II.: Onslaught legal. Prizes for all players.

12 Noon
PTQ – Pro Tour Chicago, Onslaught Sealed with draft final. Normal sealed PTQ with a top 8 rochester draft final. 1st place wins $US375 and an invite to PT Chicago. 2nd place wins a box.

3.30 PM
Onslaught Team Sealed.: Get to do the first Onslaught team sealed. Each team of 3 gets 2 Onslaught starters and 4 boosters. Modified double elimination. 1st place gets 3 boxes, 2nd get 1.5 boxes. Prizes for top 3rd of the field. Cost is $80 per team.

Drafts on Request.: Anytime there are 8 players ready there will be a draft. Signup sheets will be located at the side event area. 6 boosters for 1st, 3 for 2nd.
