Magic Weekend Paris 2011 Public Event Information

Come one, come all to participate in five days of events open to the public. Starting Wednesday, February 9 with the Last-Chance Qualifier, there are tournaments, drafts, Magic Commander, and open dueling all weekend. Magic Weekend Paris will also play host to a few extra-special events, highlighted by Grand Prix Paris on Saturday and Sunday. Public event prizes include invitations and airfare to Pro Tour Nagoya, foil card sets, an Xbox gaming system, iPods, Power 9 cards, and much more!

Weekend-Long Public Events

Weekend-long public events have no specific start time. Registration for these events is continuously open and each event will start once the appropriate number of players has registered (Subject to space and judge availability). Public Events are available during the following hours:

  • Registration Opens: 8:00 each day of Magic Weekend Paris.
  • Registration Closes: 20:00 each night of Magic Weekend Paris.

Open Dueling

Each registered player receives a Mirrodin Besieged Intro Pack. Players are then matched up against other players for game play. After completing 5 games, players receive a foil, Magic promo card. After 10 games, players receive a second foil, Magic promo card. Come to the Open Dueling area in Public Events and play whenever you have time! Play the whole weekend!

Booster Draft events will be run using Scars of Mirrodin and Mirrodin Besieged boosters.

Scheduled Public Events

The following applies to all Scheduled Public Events:

  • Unless otherwise indicated, all events are run Swiss format with a Top 4, single elimination finals. Prizes are based on standings at the end of the tournament.
  • Registration opens 1 hour before each event's scheduled start time and closes 15 minutes before the scheduled start time. Players should be seated at least 5 minutes before the scheduled start time.
  • Booster pack prizes will be awarded based on attendance. Unless otherwise posted, top finishing players will receive current set boosters. Special events may offer special prizes as posted (i.e. iPod, Magic foil set, Magic foil uncut sheet, etc); in such events the winner of the special prize will receive only that prize.

Pro Tour Qualifiers

Pro Tour Qualifiers held at the Pro Tour also award an invitation and a travel award to a specific Pro Tour tournament for the top-finishing competitor. For more information, visit www.wizards.com/protour.

Trials for individual-format Grand Prix tournaments award a three-round bye to a Grand Prix tournament for one or more of the top-finishing competitors. The number of three-round byes awarded will be determined by the number of players in the Trial as shown in the table below. Grand Prix Trial byes do not pass down - if a player already possesses a three-round bye, finishes high enough to win another bye from a Grand Prix Trial, that bye will not be passed down to the next eligible player.

* Travel:

The players eligible to receive a travel award will receive instructions from Wizards of the Coast regarding whom they must contact and the deadline by which they must arrange their travel awards. Wizards of the Coast will not refund travel made outside this service. Wizards of the Coast reserves the right to award a cash equivalent award in lieu of any travel award in its sole discretion.

All travel itineraries must be from the international airport nearest the player's home and to the host city of the applicable Pro Tour or World Championship or event, and must include all the dates of that event. No award will be substituted if member is unable to participate. All other expenses are the responsibility of the member and may include, without limitation, accommodations, ground transportation, taxes, itinerary change fees, passport and visa fees.

This award must be redeemed through member's arrangement of travel itinerary no later than (30) days before departure. Failure to complete travel arrangements as directed by Wizards of the Coast prior to this deadline will result in forfeiture of the award. Every member receiving a travel award must provide to Wizards of the Coast an executed liability release, the appropriate US taxation form (W9 or W8) (or have one on file), current contact information (http://webapp.wizards.com/dcimember/), proof of ID and passport (when required by international destination). In all cases, all such documentation must be provided to Wizards of the Coast, or previously on file, at least thirty (30) days before departure. Failure to timely provide such documentation will result in forfeiture of the award.

Players under the age of eighteen (18) at the time of the applicable Pro Tour or World Championship will receive a cash equivalent award in lieu of expenses, paid air ticket, and/or hotel accommodations. Such player must still attend, compete, and be listed in the finish of the tournament or forfeit this award.

** Hotel:

The hotel room award shall consist of one (1) single-occupancy standard hotel room at a hotel chosen by Wizards of the Coast or it's designate for four (4) nights. Additional days may be booked at member's sole expense.

Booking will include paid room and room tax only. All other expenses, including without limitation meals, gratuities, ground transportation, and itinerary change fees, are the member's responsibility. The member must occupy room on the dates designated by Wizards, or the award will be forfeited. Specific dates and arrangements are subject to availability.

All taxes are the responsibility of the members, and members acknowledge Wizards' recommendation that they consult a tax advisor in their jurisdictions for questions regarding their tax liabilities.

Players under the age of eighteen (18) at the time of the applicable Pro Tour or World Championship will receive a cash equivalent award in lieu of expenses paid air ticket and/or hotel accommodations.
