The Magic: The Gathering Grand Prix tournament series is an international circuit of large-scale Qualifier tournaments featuring cash prizes and multiple invitations to Pro Tour events.

Tournament Format And Schedule

The format for Grand Prix–Singapore is Extended. All DCI Constructed-format rules, Magic Floor Rules, and all subsequent updates will be enforced.

Friday, March 2: Onsite registration is from 9:00 A.M. – 9:00 P.M. at Level 3, Gallery East.
Saturday, March 3: Late registration from 8:30 – 9:30 A.M. Tournament begins at 10:00 A.M. The Top 64 players advance to competition on Sunday.
Sunday, March 4: The Top 64 players begin play at 9:00 A.M.

Divisions
The main tournament at Grand Prix–Singapore is open to Magic players of all ages.

Head Judge
The Head Judge for Grand Prix–Singapore will be Wearn Ee Chong, Level 3 from Malaysia.

Tournament Structure
The structure for Grand Prix–Singapore will be modified Swiss-style (50-minute rounds), with the Top 64 players (or 128 if 800 or more players registered for the main event) advancing to the second day of competition for prizes and invitations.

Amateur Status
A player is considered to have Amateur status if he or she has never participated in a Pro Tour or World Championship event. If a player has ever participated in a Pro Tour or World Championship event, that player no longer has Amateur status, may not participate in those tournaments which are limited to those with amateur status, and is not eligible for Amateur awards at tournaments which offer such awards.

Tournament Divisions and Prizes
Grand Prix–Singapore will feature the standard main tournament prize schedule, as well as a special Amateur division prize schedule. A player is considered to have Amateur status if he or she has never participated in a Pro Tour or World Championship event. The Amateur prizes will be paid to the highest-finishing amateur players in addition to any winnings those players receive from the main tournament prize schedule. All prizes are in U.S. dollars.

Pro Tour Invitations
The Top 16 players will each win an invitation to Pro Tour–Yokohama. Grand Prix invitations no longer pass down to previously uninvited players. The top 16 finishers will receive invitations even if one or more of those players already possesses an invitation.

Tournament Byes (Byes are not cumulative throughout the season or year)
Byes will be given to players in the Grand Prix based on the following criteria:

Third-Round Byes

  • Pro Player club level 3 and above.
  • DCI players with a Constructed rating of 2000 or higher. Byes do not pass down under any circumstances. Byes are based on DCI Constructed ratings published on Feb 28, 2007.

Second-Round Byes

  • Pro Player club level 2
  • DCI players with a Constructed rating of 1900 or higher. Byes do not pass down under any circumstances. Byes are based on DCI Constructed ratings published on Feb 28, 2007.

First-Round Byes

  • Pro Player club level 1
  • DCI players with a Constructed rating of 1800 or higher. Byes do not pass down under any circumstances. Byes are based on DCI Constructed ratings published on Feb 28, 2007.

Last Chance Trials - Grand Prix Singapore (Full List of Trials)
Trials start at 10:00 A.M., 12:00 P.M., 2:00 P.M., and 4:00 P.M. Registration closes 15 minutes prior to each Trial. Maximum 32 players per Trial, single-elimination. The top finisher receives a third-round bye at Grand Prix–Singapore and one display of Planar Chaos boosters. The format is Extended Constructed. Cost: S$15

“Super” Friday Night Magic Tournament (Limited Sealed Time Spiral Block)
Event starts at 3:00 P.M. Registration closes 2:45 P.M. Swiss tournament with cut to top-8 single-elimination.
1 Time Spiral Tournament Pack and 2 Planar Chaos Boosters per player
Participation Prize – All players each receive 1 March 2007 FNM promo card
1st place wins 1 Free Entry into any Side Event at Grand Prix Singapore 2007
1st place wins 8 FNM promo cards (Choose from 2006-2007 card pool on site)

On Demand Tournaments
Eight-person single-elimination, on-demand tournaments will be offered throughout the weekend. Costs: Constructed S$5, Draft S$15, Sealed S$25

Sunday, March 4

Pro Tour– Yokohama Qualifier
Registration closes at 9:15 A.M.; play begins at 9:30 A.M. The winner qualifies for Pro Tour - Yokohama and wins Airfare to Pro Tour - Yokohama. * The format is Extended Constructed. Cost: S$20

Junior Singapore Open (Standard Constructed Format)
Event starts at 12:00 P.M. Registration closes 11:45 A.M. Restricted to players aged 18 and under. Players may be asked to verify their age at the tournament site, and must provide age-confirming identification materials if requested.
Swiss tournament with cut to top-8 single-elimination.
1st place and 2nd place each wins “Magic: the Gathering cards for a year”.
Limited to 64 players. Cost $15

The Femvitational
Registration closes at 1:45 P.M.; play begins at 2:00 P.M. Females only. Constructed Tournament using the Standard-format rules. Winner receives a display of Planar Chaos. The format is Standard Constructed. Cost: S$15

Legacy Tournament
Registration closes at 11:45 A.M.; play begins at 12:00 P.M. Swiss tournament with cut to top-8 single-elimination. The top-8 wins “Italian Legend” Boosters Maximum players – 80. Cost: S$15

On Demand Tournaments
Eight-person single-elimination, on-demand tournaments will be offered throughout the weekend. Costs: Constructed S$5, Draft S$15, Sealed S$25

* Travel:
The players eligible to receive a travel award will receive instructions from Wizards of the Coast on whom they must contact and the deadline by which they must arrange their travel awards. Wizards of the Coast will not refund travel made outside this service. Wizards of the Coast reserves the right to award a cash equivalent award in lieu of any travel award in its sole discretion.
All travel itineraries must be from the international airport nearest the player’s home and to the host city of the applicable Pro Tour or World Championship, and must include all the dates of that event. No award will be substituted if member is unable to participate. All other expenses are the responsibility of the member and may include, without limitation, accommodations, ground transportation, taxes, itinerary change fees, passport and visa fees.
This award must be redeemed through member’s arrangement of travel itinerary no later than (30) days before departure. Failure to complete travel arrangements as directed by Wizards of the Coast prior to this deadline will result in forfeiture of the award. Every member receiving a travel award must provide a to Wizards of the Coast an executed liability release, the appropriate US taxation form (W9 or W8) (or have one on file), current contact information (http://webapp.wizards.com/dcimember/), proof of ID and passport (when required by international destination). In all cases, all such documentation must be provided to Wizards of the Coast, or previously on file, at least thirty (30) days before departure. Failure to timely provide such documentation will result in forfeiture of the award.
As with other awards, the players must attend, compete (though not necessarily on the same team), and be listed as finishing in the applicable tournament for which he or she received the travel award. Failure to comply with these requirements will result in forfeiture of the award.
All taxes are the responsibility of the members, and members acknowledge Wizards’ recommendation that they consult a tax advisor in their jurisdictions for questions regarding their tax liabilities.
