MAY EPISODE
Looking to improve your Limited game? Or are you just starting your trek down the road to drafting? Former Limited Information columnist and current development intern Noah Weil opens up his bag of tricks and lets you in on some of his best tips and draft philosophies. From signaling to hate-drafting to power curves, he covers all the basics to get you to the top of your draft table.
So just what is the life of a Great Designer Search intern all about? Kenneth Nagle stops by to talk about his introduction to the design process and what the last six months inside Wizards of the Coast have been like. Ken also delves into the world of Type 4 (also known as Limited Infinity), a great alternate Constructed format that gives you infinite mana -- but you can only play one spell per turn. To see Ken's house rules for the format and his 340-card decklist, click here.
May features plenty of opportunities for you to get out and play with the complete Time Spiral block. First up is Regionals in the United States and Canada on June 9. With Ninth Edition, Ravnica, Coldsnap, and Time Spiral, the Standard environment has never been bigger. Get your deck together and take your first step on the Road to Worlds. Also up in June is Grand Prix-Montreal, the first Block Constructed event to feature Future Sight, on June 23-24. Finally, the month wraps up with Pro Tour-San Diego on June 29-July 1, where the top players in the world put their heads together -- literally -- for the first Two-Headed Giant Booster Draft Pro Tour!

Type 4 (“Limited Infinity”) Rules
by Kenneth Nagle
1. Players have infinite mana.
2. Players can only play one spell per turn. (Note that many actions like playing a land, cycling a card, Ninjutsu, Forecast, and Elvish Piper’s ability naturally do not count as playing a spell.)
My House Rules:
1. Using an ‘alternate cost’ or paying a reduced mana cost allows you an additional spell that turn (Includes Morph, Convoke, Bringers, Avatar of Woe, pitching to Force of Will).
2. Starting and maximum hand size of 5.
3. Players agree to a deck size, typically 40 or 60 cards, a starting life total, typically 20, and acquire their deck by Booster Drafting, Rochester Drafting, or simply dealing themselves a random pile.
4. Players can still ‘mana burn’, which is important for cards like Altar of Shadows. When two players want to do an ability ‘infinitely’, the more ‘defensive’ ability wins. This happens when, for example, your Quicksilver Elemental wants to copy my Jareth, Leonine Titan and I don’t want to let you. While there are active/inactive player infinite loop rules, they aren’t as intuitive as the ‘defensive’ ability wins rule.
In Team play:
1. The starting team plays first, the opposing team draws first.
2. Mindslaver is banned.
In Free-For-All play:
1. The starting player both plays first and draws first.
My personal deck has been developed to:
1. Win through creature combat damage.
2. Relatively mild burn spells.
3. Very few repeatable creature kill or ‘unsolvables’, including Fevered Convulsions and Eight-and-a-Half-Tails.
4. No ultra-swingy effects, including Nezumi Graverobber, Draining Whelk, Blatant Thievery, and Kaervek the Merciless.
5. No easy mass card drawing, including Whispers of the Muse and Fact or Fiction. Some cards were cut simply because they take too long, such as Gifts Ungiven and Sensei’s Divining Top.
