Victorvdb, internet personality extraordinaire. Writing first for Brainburst and now for Sideboard, he’s well known by pro and casual player alike for his quality articles and good finishes at the Team Pro Tour and Euro’s. This weekend he’s trying to add a Nationals title to his list of accomplishments.
Stijn is the least well known of the Cornelissen family and yet he’s still very well respected by the Dutch magic community. Always outdone by his brothers this is the perfect opportunity to get some time in the spotlight himself.

Game 1

Stijn won the toss and chose to play first but had to Paris his first hand. He led with Wooded Foothills, declaring his colors on the first turn. Victor played an Island. Stijn started his offensive with a turn two Wild Mongrel, the ideal start for a Red/Green deck. A turn three Llanowar Elves was less impressive. Victor cycled a Renewed Faith on turn 2 and showed a green mana source on turn three, representing Wake. Victor then Cunning Wished for Chastise and Stijn chose to attack right into it. After a little thought Victor decided to remove the Mongrel. A Grim Lavamancer took it’s place and a Call of the Herd put the pressure on. Victor’s second Cunning Wish fetched Moment’s Peace giving him enough time to try and set up Wrath of God. The Lavamancer made sure Stijn still got some hits in. A Firebolt and a Violent Eruption combined with the pings to take Victor to 6, a precariously low life total against a deck like Red/Green. Victor had to do something and do something he did. Exalted Angel came down face up with enough mana left to Moment’s Peace or Circular Logic. Stijn was running out of time. An attack and a Lavamancer shot got Victor down to 1 before the Angel started to take over. Stijn’s next attack was Moment’s Peaced and Victor was back on 9 life. A Mirari’d Renewed Faith convinced Stijn to try his luck in the next two games.

1-0 Victor

Game 2

Stijn mulliganed twice to kick off game 2 and put out some beats with a Llanowar Elves, Grim Lavamancer and a Wild Mongrel. Victor Moment’s Peaced turn 3 to stay on a safe life total and then Wrathed for the 3 for 1. Stijn seemed hopelessly behind at this point and when a Teroh’s Faithful came into play the game was all but over. Stijn fought on gamely, burning away the Faithful and playing and flashbacking a Call of the Herd. A Wrath killed his team again. A Rootwalla got Chastised after it was pumped and then Victor Opportunited himself. When the Exalted Angel arrived even the stoic Stijn couldn’t help but chuckle and he scooped up his cards.

2-0 Victor
