Diego Ostrovich is the Champion of Grand Prix London 2003!

The close proximity of the World Championships helped turn the tournament into a true international affair as many players chose to delay their return home to fit in this tournament. The Top 8 included two Argentineans, one Canadian, one American, one Italian, one Frenchman, one Dutchman and a Norwegian. The Top 8 was also enormously experienced, including two current National Champions (Barbero and Rider) and a PT and European Championship winner (Eivind Nitter).

The format has also opened up a little more than expected. Both Pascoli and Hamon cut through the RW control decks with innovative designs. This allowed the Goblins to play and while early forerunners Marc Le Campion and John Larkin fell behind, Day one leader Barbero continued into the quarters before he was knocked out in the mirror by fellow countryman Ostravich. Ostravich then went onto dismantle Pascoli’s blue-white deck before giving Hamon’s rogue green-red deck a lesson in brutality as his two hasted Goons smashed through Hamon’s defences. The RW-Goblin dominance had been given a fright but in the end the little red men could not be halted.
