For all the known talents in the Top 8, the finals came down to a battle between longtime Ontario PTQ rivals Josh Rider and Nathon Braymore. Both of them narrowly escaped the quarterfinals, and then went on to demolish their way to face each other at the big table. In the glow of the trophies they would receive they were fighting for the big title. Neither of them could believe it.
It was a lopsided affair. Going into the match the common consensus was that Rider had a big advantage. After a first stumbling draw, Braymore Duressed and Smothered the only two non-land cards in Rider's hand, only to find himself under Braids on his fourth turn. The third match again featured a clumsy draw from Braymore, and Rider's was merciless. Joining the two as the Canadian National Team at worlds is Richard Hoaen, who recently Top 8'd at Pro Tour - Yokohama. He defeated local hero Guillaume Daoust soundly in the third/fourth place playoff. Congratulations to Josh Rider, Nathon Braymore and Richard Hoaen, the 2003 Canadian National Team!
