What you need to know if you are going to the show...
Gen Con Indy 2008, August 14-17, is nonstop gaming action. For those dedicated few who want to test their mettle against the worlds’ best (or at least most passionate) Axis & Allies fans the Gen Con experience is not to be missed.
Before we get into the list of events here are a few things you need to remember if you go to play.
For Axis & Allies Miniatures:
- Bring maps and dice to all events.
- SS Panzergrenadier and the US Ranger costs have been changed to 7 points.
- The 1939-1945 set had some cost revisions. Keep in mind that you can use the new stat cards with the old models if they have the same name.
- The unit limit is 15 pieces - even for the 150 point tournament.
- You are only allowed one hero.
For War at Sea:
- Bring maps, dice, island and shoal cards.
- The rules as printed in the starter set rule book have been altered. The official rules are as written in the Rules Update dated July 18th, 2007. You can find a copy of the update here.
- Task ForceSubmarine U-66 speed has been changed to 1.
For Axis & Allies board games:
- Bring a copy of the game variant you wish to play.
Here is a run down of the upcoming Axis & Allies Miniatures events:
Axis & Allies Miniatures Convention League: Register for only one league spot to play during the entire convention. Using two booster players compete in unorganized pickup games against fellow commanders.
- HNM00148 Thursday 14th, 11am to 3pm
- HMN00143 Friday 14th, 10am to 2pm
- HMN00144 Saturday 16th, 10am to 2pm
- HMN00145 Sunday 17th, 10am to 2pm
Thursday August 14th:
- HNM00150 2pm to 6pm – 100 point sealed. Using two boosters players build their best 100 point army. Four rounds of Swiss, no finals. Prize payout for 3-1 record or better.
- HNM00153 6pm to 10pm – 100 point constructed. Using all released sets players build their best army. Four rounds of Swiss, no finals. Prize payout for 3-1 record or better.
Friday August 15th:
- HMN00146 10am to 2pm – 150 point constructed. Using all released sets players build their best 150 point army. Four rounds of Swiss, followed by a cut to Top 8. Prize payout for 3-1 record or better.
- HMN00149 2pm to 6pm - 100 point constructed. Using all released sets players build their best army. Four rounds of Swiss, no finals. Prize payout for 3-1 record or better.
- HMN00152 6pm to 10pm - 100 point constructed. Using all released sets players build their best army. Four rounds of Swiss, no finals. Prize payout for 3-1 record or better.
- HMN00154 6pm to 10pm – 150 point Constructed Championship. The final 8 players that qualified from HMN00146 will compete to determine the world champion.
Saturday August 16th:
- HMN00147 10am to 2pm – War at Sea – 150 points sealed. Players build their best 150 point fleet. Four rounds of Swiss followed by a cut to Top 8.
- HMN00151 2pm to 6pm - War at Sea – 100 points sealed. Using two boosters players build their best 100 point army. Four rounds of Swiss, no finals. Prize payout for 3-1 record or better.
- HMN00155 6pm to 10pm – War at Sea – 150 point sealed Championship. The final 8 players that qualified from HMN00147 will compete to determine the world champion.
- HMN00156 6pm to 10pm – 100 point special. Nazi occultists have opened a portal to a world of myth and legend. Strange creatures have emerged and the Nazis can’t control them. Three players, each with a 100 point constructed army, must cooperate to defeat the supernatural enemy.
Sunday August 17th:
- HMN00142 10am to 2pm - 100 point constructed. Using all released sets players build their best army. Four rounds of Swiss, no finals. Prize payout for 3-1 record or better.
The world would be a duller place without Axis & Allies and it all started with Larry Harris. Without his vision we wouldn’t have the wonderful collection of games we have today. If Axis & Allies board games are where you want to spend your time then this year Greg Smorey has just the thing for you.
Axis & Allies Open: If you’ve got a hankering to play A&A Europe, Pacific, D-Day or the Bulge register for one of the Open games. These are casual games played on Thursday, Friday and Saturday with top players receiving prizes. The events are:
- BMG00390 – Axis & Allies Europe, starting 9am and running every odd hour to 9pm. Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
- BMG00393 – Axis & Allies Pacific, starting 9am and running every odd hour to 9pm. Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
- BMG00387 – Axis & Allies Guadalcanal, starting 10 am and running every even hour to 8pm. Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
- BGM00388 – Axis & Allies Battle of the Bulge, starting 9am and running every odd hour to 9pm. Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
- BGM00392 – Axis & Allies D-Day, starting 9am and running every odd hour to 9pm. Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
Thursday 14th:
- BGM00389 – Axis & Allies 2nd Edition Tournament. Starting at 3pm Thursday, Friday & Saturday play four rounds of single elimination, with the finals on Sunday. Top teams receive prizes.
Friday 15th:
- BGM00391 – Axis & Allies Guadalcanal Tournament. Starting at 10am. Four rounds single elimination. Top players receive prizes.
- BGM00394 – Axis & Allies Masters Invitational Tournament. Watch the countries best players compete for title of champion. Finals on Sunday. Invitation only.
Saturday 16th:
- BGM00395 – Axis & Allies Mega (Revised) Tournament. Starting 8am. Compete in a 5 round single elimination tournament. Semi-Finals and Finals on Sunday. Top three receive prizes and an invitation to the 2009 Masters Invitational Championship.
