Unless the price of the subscription is "free" I see myself not having a subscription to Dragon or Dungeon for the first time in decades. I can't see myself paying a monthly fee for no content.

I just joined Dungeons and Dragons Insider. I was disapointed with the tools..were they worth the price of subscription? Oh well at least I get the content of Dungeon and Dragon Magazines...Hold on...?
I think I will ask for my money back. Can you please send me the details of how to do this.

Why is the "Going Dark" editorial behind the subscription wall? Shouldn't this be made available to the general public.

    Re: Going Dark

I will echo what many have said here in the disappointment. One of the main reasons that I pay for DDi is for access to new Dungeon and Dragon Magazines. At least we have until January, however I hope that they weighed the business case about not communicating a release date for Next and indicating that they are ready to stop publishing Dungeon and Dragon magazines in January. I just can't imagine you sustaining your business model by stopping 2 of the things that people pay to have access to.

This may not be the place to request but if you provided a way to download the compendium locally, I can say for one that you would renew MY Faith in Wizards and maintain my DDi subscription.

So... let me get this straight. Dungeon and Dragon magazines are both "going dark"... but DDi subscribers have paid in advance for content WoTC has now unilaterally decided to deny them?

i find there ending of content unreasonable im sure they can find a way to do this i mean this is literally where all their money from dnd is coming from right now what are they thinking i mean they can do a bit more this is blatantly abandoning the community so please explain the reasons a bit clearer

Wotc continues to do a very good job of making sure that I can not give them my money. I would love to give them large quantities of my money, but they refuse to release stuff so that I CAN BUY IT! And now, I might not be a subscriber after December... More of my money they don't want. Of course, this has left me able to spend money on other companies stuff...

Maybe you haven't heard, but they have a pretty good reason they're not selling anything right now.

(The authorization system is broken AGAIN so I am logged in to comment but can't download.) From the comments it looks like the mags are going away. Sad, especially since I know there would be plenty of people willing to write articles. (I know several Dragon authors.) But they must be asking why pump money and content into a system they want to replace.

So, given that the content volume is decreasing sharply, is there any reason to expect a corresponding drop in DDI price?

I sent that exact question to support when the mags shrunk to 1/2 the size of early 4e. I got back "we will forward your comment up" and nothing more. I'm a paying customer who reached out to them, I wish they would have responded.

I'm not angry but I am disappointed.

It's like the WotC haven't learnt how easy it easy to kill goodwill despite all the past missteps.

Sad to see the magazines enter this hiatus. If anything, Wizards could continue producing edition neutral content.

In the worst case scenario, why not reprint famous articles from past magazines?

There other options to pursue besides turning the magazines "off"...

The only reason I subscribe is for the Realms content (Eye on the Realms, Backdrop articles, etc.).

I'm not sure when my subscription is set to re-up for another year, but if it's on or before the end of the year, looks like I'll have to cancel it until Realms content starts getting published again.

I don't think it's unreasonable to expect consistency in terms of regular publication of content. Therefore it's disappointing to see an interruption in service.

I believe content should evolve concurrently within the framework of whatever format is currently being used, so there's no interruption in service.

Unless WotC is going to use their downtime to sample the user base to see what they want in terms of Dragon/Dungeon content, I can't see a good reason for them to interrupt service.

Regardless, *****users whose year-long subscriptions run into or over the blackout period should have their subscriptions extended for a time equ... (see all)

So Dragon and Dungeon are going away at the first of the year? So goes official 4E support besides the online tools...and my Insider subscription, then. Hope we see some gaps in 4E filled (Transmuter Mage build, Winter and Fall Sentinel builds, etc) but I doubt that will happen.

There are many gaps left to fill in 4e, but they'll never come from official support now... :(
