Being a great Dungeon Master requires a variety of skills. Part referee, part storyteller, and part actor; the art of the Dungeon Master is in combining these talents to become a superhuman, D&D-propelling package. Join D&D staff members as they discuss various tips and tricks to bring the best adventure to your players, as well as ways to make them equal participants in the story. A Q&A session will follow the panel discussion.

A 2012 Pax Prime D&D Experience

Awaken the darkness and become a drow as you delve into the D&D Experience at Pax Prime 2012. Follow a network of treacherous Underdark tunnels to the subterranean city of Menzoberranzan, and face deadly monsters and cunning villains.

The Main Theater: Come Saturday to watch the Acquisitions Inc. team (Jerry Holkins, Mike Krahulik, Scott Kurtz, Wil Wheaton) with Dungeon Master Chris Perkins play two hours of the next iteration of Dungeons & Dragons! Remember, space is limited for this event and usually fills up fast!

Raven Theater: Join members of the D&D research and design team in two panels at this location, Ask the DM on Friday and The Future of D&D on Saturday. See “Seminars” below for times.

The Dungeon (Conference Center LL1 - LL5): The chamber beneath the Pike Street Conference Center is host to an array of D&D activities including seminars,panels, and numerous play opportunities for D&D, such as D&D Encounters, the DM’s Challenge, the Lords of Waterdeep board game, and the new miniatures skirmish game Dungeon Command.

D&D Booth: Here, attendees can purchase D&D products and see the latest D&D video games.. You’ll also get an inside glimpse at the drow plot to seize the Forgotten Realms and have the opportunity to receive a free button based on your drow house and get your photo with Lolth, Demon Queen of Spiders or the most famous drow of all-time Drizzt Do’Urden. Also, find out how you can acquire the ultimate Underdark accessory—an LED light-up beanie!

Choose Your House

Visit the Dungeons & Dragons booth in the exhibit hall to take the “What’s Your Drow House” quiz that shows your allegiance to one of the drow houses of Menzoberranzan. Then, keep an eye out for D&D staff members in Underdark beanies. At certain times throughout the convention, you can receive treasure* from these envoys of Lolth, which you can keep for yourself to improve the glory of your house. *Any treasure offered is one per person, and only while supplies last.

Play the first encounter in the latest D&D Encounters season. For the first time in a season, play the bad guys – drow and their allies! Create your own character or a character can be provided.

Lead the assault on the Temple of Lathander in Dagger Falls as you play drow looking to further Lolth’s aims to dominate the surface world and strike a blow for darkness! Characters are provided.

D&D Next Playtest (4 Hours)

Time Slot: Fri 7 pm only

Playtest the next iteration of Dungeons & Dragons at PAX Prime. Play in an adventure with characters provided, and see a glimpse of future of the D&D game! Players of any editions of the game are welcome to participate. All participants are required to opt-in to the Wizards of the Coast playtest agreement.

DM’s Challenge: Vault of the Drow (4 Hours)

Time Slot: Sat 7 pm only

The drow houses vie for power, maneuvering to gain Lolth’s favor and position themselves in control of Menzoberranzan. You are one of their agents! This DM’s Challenge is a special one-time event running only at PAX Prime. DMs create an adventure in which players take the roles of drow and their allies in a 9th-level D&D 4th Edition adventure. Rate your play experience to determine the best adventure of the evening! Characters are provided.

Come try out the newest D&D board game, Lords of Waterdeep! This Euro-style resource game casts the players as the Masked Lords of Waterdeep, each recruiting adventurers to complete various quests and achieve their own ends. The tournament consists of a 2-hour entry round, with the top 25 scoring players advancing to a 2-hour final round to determine the PAX Prime champion! Winner and finalists receive prizes.

Join members of the D&D Research and Design team to discuss the future of D&D and the next iteration of the game. The events are completely free, and each panel includes a Q&A. Most seminars take place in the lowest level of the Conference Center on 8th & Pike (aka The Dungeon). A few are located in the main convention center.

Jeremy Crawford is the lead rules editor for Dungeons & Dragons at Wizards of the Coast. His design and development credits include the Rules Compendium, all the other books in the Dungeons & Dragons Essentials line, and Player’s Handbook 1–3. Jeremy also co-hosts the official Dungeons & Dragons podcast.

Mike Mearls is the senior manager for Dungeons & Dragons R&D. He has also worked as a designer and columnist for the weekly Legends & Lore column. His recent D&D credits include Player’s Handbook 3, Hammerfast, Monster Manual 3, and the Castle Ravenloft board game.

Chris Perkins has been working for Wizards of the Coast for 15 years. He was involved in work on 3rd and 4th edition, as well as the upcoming iteration of Dungeons & Dragons. He is also the editor-in-chief of Dragon magazine and Dungeon magazine.

Rodney Thompson is an advanced designer for Dungeons & Dragons R&D at Wizards of the Coast, originally from Chattanooga, Tennessee. His credits for the D&D game include the Dark Sun Campaign Setting and the Dark Sun Creature Catalog, Monster Vault, Player’s Option: Heroes of the Feywild, and Lords of Waterdeep.
