Transitions
R.A. Salvatore

Three epic fantasies that bring Drizzt Do’Urden face-to-face with a changing world, and Forgotten Realms fans into a whole new universe of adventure.

The Orc King: The orcs of the Kingdom of Many-Arrows and the dwarves of Mithral Hall continue to face off across the rugged expanse of the Spine of the World, and more and more Drizzt is feeling caught in the middle.

The Pirate King: And when he wanders through Luskan on his way back to Icewind Dale, he finds himself in exactly that same spot again, but this time between his old friend the pirate hunter Captain Deudermont, and the robber barons of the City of Sails.

The Ghost King: But all that is just a prelude to the world-shattering danger of the Spellplague, and a reborn Crenshinibon that thirsts for Drizzt’s blood, and doesn’t care how many innocents have to die before they finally face off.

Book I: The Orc King

"The Orc King finds Drizzt's whirling scimitar blades tackling both familiar foes and refreshingly ambiguous moral challenges . . . The story line marks the continuation of Salvatore's maturation as a writer, introducing more complex themes into a frequently black-and-white fantasy landscape."
--Kirkus

SUFFER NO ORC TO LIVE

. . . the hooded man said again -- or started to, until a flash of lightning shot through the camp and drove into a keg of warm ale beside him. As the keg exploded, liquid flying, a sheet of dissipating electricity stole the darkness from the growing twilight.

All six of the companions fell back, shielding their eyes. When they regained their sight, one and all saw the lone figure of a lean dark elf standing atop one of their wagons.

DRIZZT DO'URDEN

. . . gasped one of the dwarves.

The others nodded and mouthed their agreement, for there was no mistaking the dark elf standing before them, with his two scimitars belted at his hips and Taulmaril, the Heartseeker, again slung over one shoulder. The drow's long white hair blew in the late afternoon breeze, his cloak flapped out behind him, and even the dull light remaining could do little to diminish the shine of his silvery-white mithral-lined shirt.

"To what do we owe the honor of your presence?"

Book II: The Pirate King

"Drizzt Do'Urden

. . . in the black flesh," the portly proprietor said as the drow came up to the bar. "What brings you back to Luskan after these long years?" He extended a hand, which Drizzt grasped and shook warmly.

"Well met, Arumn Gardpeck," the dark elf replied. "Perhaps I have returned merely to see if you continued to ply your trade -- I take comfort that some things ever remain the same."

"What else would an old fool like me do?" Arumn replied. "Have you sailed in with Deudermont, then?"

"Deudermont? Is Sea Sprite in port?"

"Aye, and with a trio of ships of a Waterdhavian lord beside her," Arumn replied.

"And spoiling for a fight. . . ."

Book III: The Ghost King

Drizzt Do’Urden has travelled a long and dangerous road since he first emerged from the Underdark into a strange new world, a world that distrusted, even hated him, on first sight. But as months became years, and years became decades, Drizzt carved out a place for himself, and gathered around him friends that soon became a family. But families, like all things, have a season.

The demonic Crystal Shard was shattered years ago by the fiery breath of a titanic red dragon, and the dragon itself was destroyed. But as the disembodied spirit of a long-disintegrated mind flayer discovers, the Spellplague brings many changes. Together they are the Ghost King, and revenge is this godlike creature’s only goal.

Disaster has come to the world of the Forgotten Realms. Walls of blue fire streak across the land, leaving unimaginable change in their wake. Many die, some are forever altered, and others are awakened. With old enemies made whole, and old friends lying broken, Drizzt will have to find every last friend he has left, even an unlikely old enemy, if he is to survive in a world turned upside down.

The final installment in the epic Transitions trilogy, The Ghost King follows eight years after the end of The Pirate King, and brings shocking changes to the Legend of Drizzt. Cadderly, and other characters from the recently-reissued Cleric Quintet series, join the fight against a daunting evil. With this book, the Realms change forever.
