A: Yes, the .Net 3.5 SP 1 is required to run Monster Builder, please be sure to get it before downloading Monster Builder. Character Builder adds .Net 3.5 SP 1 to your computer when you install it. So if you already have Character Builder you won't need to install the .Net 3.5 SP 1 again.

Q: What is the difference between a custom monster and an official monster?
A: An official monster is a monster that has appeared in Wizards products. This includes monster manuals, adventures, campaign settings, etc. A custom monster is one of two things. It is either a monster that you have created yourself, or it is an official monster that you have altered. There is a drop down in the monster search options that will allow you to filter by official or custom monsters.
Q: Can I change the level and role of existing monster and custom monster with Monster Builder?
A: Yes. Changing a monster's level and/or role automatically changes the appropriate statistics (hit points, defenses, experience point value, attack bonus, and so on) in the way outlined in Dungeon Master's Guide 2. The exception to this is when you have a custom entry from damage on an attack, you will have to change that manually.
Q: What happens if I save an official Monster?
A: Saving an official monster saves it as a new custom monster with the same name, unless you change it.
Q: Will the Monster Builder allow me to modify my monster’s level more then the 5 levels up or down outlined in the Dungeon Master’s Guide?
A: Yes, Monster Builder allows you to modify monsters beyond those limits.
Q: Will the Monster Builder contain/support all monsters released in Wizards' material, including adventures? Will the list of monsters be updated regularly with new material?
A: Right now, it contains over 2500 monsters from all of the Wizards sources (Dungeon/Dragon magazine, campaign settings, Monster Manuals). Monthly updates will add new monsters on a regular basis.
Q: How can I share my monsters?
A: You can copy and paste monsters as an Image or as Rich Text.
Q: How much altering of powers is required when taking a power from a higher (or lower) level monster and putting it in mine?
A: The damage and bonus to hit are altered automatically by the program to a level that is appropriate for the level of the monster you are creating or altering unless you have non-standard damage on the attack. In these cases you will need to modify that damage manually.
Q: Do I need a subscription to use Monster Builder?
A: There is not a demo version of Monster Builder, it is only available to D&DI subscribers.
