Round 11 Feature Match: Masashiro Kuroda vs. Yudai Yamasaki

Game 1

Although Kuroda started the game with what seemed like a good hand with Birds of Paradise and Llanowar Elves, ironically his only lands were Mountains and Ports. After debating with himself for over a minute, he decided to keep his hand. Although he was unable to draw any sources of green mana, fortunately for him Yamasaki also had a slow start. Laughing at each other's misfortune, they continued to draw and play lands. When Yamasaki finally played a creature--Phyrexian Scuta with kicker--Kuroda could only stare at a hand filled with the wrong color of cards. Throwing down his hand in disgust for Yamasaki to see, he conceded.

Game 2

There was a sense of deja vu as Kuroda's opening hand once again contained mana creatures but no green mana. Having learned his lesson last time, he mulliganed, drawing into Llanowar Elves and Thornscape Familiar. His hopes dwindled rapidly as Yamasaki destroyed each of his creatures as they was played. Yamasaki tried to go for a quick kill with a kicked Scuta, only to have it removed by a Seal of Fire and Flametongue Kavu. When the Kavu was joined on Kuroda's next turn by a Blastoderm, Yamasaki scooped.

Game 3

The third game was completely different from the first two, as both Kuroda and Yamasaki drew into creatures early. However, Kuroda was unable to draw Shivan Wurm, the star of his deck, and was forced into reacting to Yamasaki's creatures. The game ended when, after Kuroda tapped out to play a creature, Yamasaki played a Skizzik with kicker and attacked. Kuroda went down, unable to block all of Yamasaki's creatures and with no mana to play any removal.

Result: Yamasaki 2-1
